The energy sector security and sustainability has become a hot issue due to the vital role the sector plays for the survival of human being. The future of the energy sector is continuously subjected to many driving forces which are affecting its future trends. Many studies and foresights have been continuously conducted to figure out what the future holds for the sector and attain a secure and sustainable energy system. Hence the main objective behind this research process is to identify the future trends and driving forces that have more capability in affecting the future energy system. The research also analyzes the future trends and the main driving forces behind the Finnish energy sector. An empirical research method was used for the research process which was supported by conducting an appropriate literature reviews and interviews. The research further suggests useful strategies to reach the desired goals and roadmap for the future of the sector as it finds that the main driving forces for the future energy sector include mainly population growth, economic growth, energy prices and climate change. These forces will also determine the type and level of the future energy use more than the other factors. Also the demand for energy growth will increase higher with more energy efficiency gains as the time passes. Besides, the demand for some energy sources such as renewables and natural gas will grow higher even though their inability to eclipse fossil fuels as the leading energy sources for the foreseeable future.
