Open and responsible science
Openness is an essential part of science. Responsible science promotes a reliable and commonly accepted way of producing, publishing and evaluating researched information. It supports the openness, presence and use of science in society.
Open publishing of research results and data improves the visibility and impact of the research. References to publications and research data are a part of the researcher’s academic merits. Opening and communicating about the research process and methods also increases the visibility of the research, which enables new possibilities for co-operation between researchers.
Open science has globally become a significant way of promoting science and research and their impact in society.
The University of Vaasa, VAMK and Novia are committed to promoting open science
Open science is part of our universities’ strategic policies. Researchers must adhere to the principles of open science whenever possible. The higher education institutions and the Ministry of Education and Culture (OKM) monitor and evaluate the level and development of open science in all higher education institutions in Finland. In addition, many research funders require open access to research outputs.
