Textbooks
Books included in the degree programmes are textbooks which are primarily acquired in electronic form. You can check the user rights of e-books with the library. If an e-book is ordered as a textbook, the library will acquire one printed copy to the textbook collection. If the e-book does not have unlimited access, at least one textbook per every six students is acquired.
Before the start of the semester, the course teacher should check that the library’s textbook collection contains a sufficient number of copies and inform Tritonia of the need for e-textbooks. Inform the library about new textbooks and e-textbooks to be renewed no later than 31 May for the fall semester and 30 November for the spring semester. Books are ordered online with the acquisition form. Use the renewal form below to inform us about the need for e-textbooks.
It is good to mention in the study guide which editions are used if there are several. Teachers can inform the library if a certain edition of a textbook is no longer used. Textbooks are removed from the collection when they have not been in the course requirements for five years. Of the removed textbooks, 1-2 copies are placed in the subject and research literature collection.
Teacher’s copies
Tritonia acquires one printed teacher’s copy if the textbook is not available as an e-book. In other cases (e.g. additional copies or electronic teacher’s copy), the unit pays for the order, thus the approval of the dean of the School is required. The units check and approve the invoices for material requested for staff use.
Subject and research literature
To Tritonia’s general collection, we primarily acquire literature needed in education and research. Acquisition requests are made online with the acquisition form.
Books for staff use
The university’s units can order literature via Tritonia to be placed at the units’ own reference libraries. The unit is responsible for the funding of material for staff use, and orders must be approved by the dean of the School. The units check and approve the invoices for material requested for staff use.
Journals
Journals are acquired for the university’s education and research use and in electronic form whenever possible. Printed journals can be read in the library, and e-journals are available to students and staff of the University of Vaasa via the Tritonia Finna search service. Journals acquired for unit staff use are paid for by the unit. Acquisition requests for journals are made online with the acquisition form.
Databases and other e-resources
Tritonia acquires databases and other e-resources for the teaching and research fields of the University of Vaasa. We take into account the terms of use of the materials and their suitability for library and organisational use. The acquired materials are available to the University of Vaasa staff and students via the Tritonia Finna search service. For more information, contact infoservice@uwasa.fi.
Personal researcher’s loan
Teaching and research staff at the university can order new books as personal loans for two months (56 days). The person to whom the researcher’s loan is borrowed is responsible for it. The personal researcher’s loan applies only to newly acquired books.
Project loans
Literature paid out of project funds is acquired in the same way as other material. Project researchers can make acquisition requests. When making an acquisition request, include the project number.
The items are registered as project loans. The loan period for project loans is one year (365 days). The person to whom the project loan is borrowed is responsible for it. You can renew project loans if the project continues, and they cannot be reserved by other customers. When the item is no longer needed for the project, it is transferred to the general collection.
