Visitors have the right to use Tritonia’s collections, facilities and devices if they follow the user rules and the provisions of the Copyright Act (404/1961). Tritonia primarily serves the students, researchers and staff of the University of Vaasa, Vaasa University of Applied Sciences and Novia University of Applied Sciences (in Vaasa and Jakobstad). Services for other customers might be more restricted.

Borrowing rights
Borrowing rights and a library card are granted to registered customers. The library has the right to save the customer’s personal identification number to the customer register. When registering, the customer proves their identity by online authentication or with an ID card at the customer service desk. The customer commits to following the library’s terms of use, guidelines and loan periods.
Students and staff at higher education institutions can create their own digital library card by following the instructions on Tritonia’s website. The consent of a guardian is required for the registration of a customer under the age of 15. Anyone providing false information or neglecting these user rules might lose their borrowing rights.
The library card is personal. If the customer cannot visit the library in person, they can authorise another person to use library services in their name. The person must show the letter of authorisation and their ID at the service desk.
To avoid misuse, you must report to the library immediately if you lose your card. The customer is also always obliged to notify the library if their email address, home address or name changes, because our customer register is not updated via the student or census register.
Loans services
The loan periods vary depending on the collection. You can find the loan periods and restrictions on Tritonia’s website. Some materials cannot be borrowed but read only at the library.
The customer is responsible for returning their loans by the due date, which they can check in the Tritonia Finna search service. The library sends the customer an email notification for loans with an approaching due date and loans that are already late. The notification does not, however, remove the customer’s obligation to return or renew their loans on time. The library is not responsible for the delivery of emails. Especially some free email services might block the email notifications or mark them as spam. We recommend students use their university email to ensure the delivery of emails. More detailed information about renewing and returning loans is available on Tritonia’s website.
The customer can reserve Tritonia’s material that is on loan in accordance with the instructions on our website. The interlibrary loans service enables you to borrow or order photocopies of material that cannot be found in Tritonia or other libraries in the area.
Fees
The use of Tritonia’s collections is mainly free of charge. You can find our services with fees listed in Tritonia’s service prices. Overdue fees accrue for materials returned or renewed after the due date according to our service price list. The customer loses their borrowing rights when the maximum limit of overdue fees is exceeded. The limit for the patron block is announced on Tritonia’s website. Your borrowing rights are returned when you pay the fees fully or partially. Overdue fees can be paid at the library with a card or to the University of Vaasa account. We do not accept cash.
The customer must compensate for unreturned, lost or damaged materials in accordance with our service prices. The library has the right to charge unpaid fees through billing and debt collection. The library is not obliged to refund a paid invoice or accept invoiced material.
Terms of use for e-resources
The licensing agreements of online materials specify the terms of use that the users of the material must comply with. The students and staff of Tritonia’s universities can access their university’s online materials by logging in to the Tritonia Finna search service with their HAKA credentials. The library is not responsible for managing the usernames for online materials.
All library customers can use the online materials of the University of Vaasa, VAMK and Novia in accordance with the licensing agreements (walk-in user) on the search computers in Tritonia (Vaasa). In Tritonia Allergo in Jakobstad, the online materials of Novia and Centria University of Applied Sciences are available locally.
Facilities and devices
Customers can use Tritonia’s facilities for free during opening hours. Outside customer service hours facilities and other services are available as self-service. When the library is closed, Tritonia’s (Vaasa) premises can be accessed with an access key. During these hours, a security guard checks that persons inside the library have a student card and an access key.
During self-service hours, the customer service desk is closed, meaning that you cannot pay your fees at the library, or pick up your library card or material collected at the service desk (interlibrary loan service, Tritonia Express).
You can use library’s search computers only for research and study purposes. Users must follow universities’ data security guidelines.
Quiet work environment
All customers should take other library users into consideration to ensure a peaceful study environment. There are rooms and areas in the library meant for discussions and group work. Eating is allowed only in the café area on the first floor. Phones must be muted. The library staff have the right to request customers to leave the library if they disturb others.
Data privacy
Tritonia’s customer registers are personal data registers in accordance with the European Union’s General data protection regulation (2016/679). The library customer register is used solely for managing loans services. We do not disclose the data in the registers to outsiders.
Everyone has the right to check their own data in the register.
